Fielding Practice Agenda
Program Breakdown
All of our dome and facility training days are designed by Gene Larkin and Tom Nevers in collaboration with other members of the NLB staff. The Minnetonka Dome provides a fantastic facility for these high energy sessions. Defensive position-specific fundamentals and situations will be practiced. NLB emphasizes treating practices as game-like as possible in regards to speed and pace of play. The most important part of defense is a players footwork. This will be emphasized in all defense sessions.
Topics covered
-Moving feet correctly at all positions defensively
-Glove position when fielding the ball as well as how to move the glove through the fielding motion
-How our body moves towards a target on particular plays such as flips in the infield or setting for a tag in the outfield
-Game like reps with specific situations involved
-Each week will work off the previous session in a progression format trying to get players ready to go by high school tryouts or their association seasons

Testing
NLB tests players exit velocities three times over the course of the winter. Higher levels of exit velocities do not always correlate perfectly with improvement as a hitter, but it is a strong indicator of a players ability to drive and hit the ball hard.
